The Rota
![]()
To avoid overcrowding on any one pool, the Fishery is divided into 2 beats (see map above) and a Rota has been established, whereby anglers are asked to change beat at 12am. If the beats are fully booked, we may ask anglers to rotate the pools within each beat.
Beats: The Coolcronan Fishery is divided into 2 beats: (1) The Ice House Beat and Graveyard Beat and (2) the Rock Pool Beat, as indicated on the above Map.
Time Slots: The Fishing day is divided into 2 time slots:a) Morning Slot: 6am till 12 am.
b) Afternoon Slot: 12am till 6pm.
One Beat Per Time Slot: During each time slot, anglers will fish only 1 of the 2 beats, as indicated by the persons in charge of the Fishery.
Rotation of Pools: If a beat is fully occupied, (6 paying anglers) we may ask the anglers to rotate the pools on each beat.
Rota: The persons in charge of the Coolcronan Fishery will allocate the order in which anglers rotate through the three beats. If anglers miss one or more time slots, they are not entitled to a refund, nor can they be guaranteed to fish both beats.
Rods:a) A maximum of 12 paying rods will be allowed on the fishery at any one time (not including ghillies).
b) The Scott-Knox-Gore Salmon Fisheries reserve 3 rods for the use of the persons in charge of the Coolcronan Fishery and/or special guests, such as Jack Charlton.
c) A maximum of 6 paying rods can fish on any one beat at any given time. These rods may be requested to rotate within the beat as indicated by the persons in charge of the Fishery.
Evening Fishing: After 6pm, paying anglers can fish at the place of their choice, on the condition that they respect the enjoyment of other guests.
Ghillies: When any beat is entirely taken by one party of anglers, their ghillies can fish the beat at the discretion of the guests they are with. If other anglers are on the same beat, the ghillies may be required to refrain from fishing.
Use of the Boats: Boats are no longer available for unattented use due to regulation changes in the area. Anglers may be ferried to particular beats at the discretion of the Manager for the day. Anglers being transported by boat on the Coolcronan Fishery must use a suitable life jacket. Anglers being transported by boat do so completely at there own risk.
Interpretation of the Rules: Any matter arising between anglers regarding the interpretation of these rules and regulations will be settled by the persons in charge of the Coolcronan Fishery. All anglers and ghillies are obliged to accept their indications and to comply with all rules and regulations of the Fishery.
Exceptions to these Rules: Circumstances such as high water conditions, may force the persons in charge of the Coolcronan Fishery to rearrange the rotation of the rods at their discretion.
Car Parking and Meeting Point: Please park at the designated area beside the Cable Pool. The Fishery Meeting Point is also located at the Cable Pool. See Map.
These rules are subject to change without notice.
Important Notices
Fishing is at own risk
All persons access the premises of the Coolcronan Fishery and fish at their own risk.
Cars are parked at the owners risk.
Make Safety a Priority
At the Coolcronan Fishery, you will be fishing for wild fish in an entirely natural environment.
Every effort is made to maintain the highest standards of safety. However, many conditions are beyond reasonable control. Also, some conditions may vary without any warning. As a result, fishing can be hazardous, so at all times please make your own safety and the safety of others an overriding priority.
Wading can be Dangerous
Anglers wade into the river at their own risk. In many places, the waters are too deep for wading and the current can be extremely fast. Please ask the persons in charge of the Coolcronan Fishery for advice before wading. Wading is not allowed unless anglers are wearing a life jacket.
Use of the Boats
Anglers can only make use of the boats to be ferried from one beat to another by the resident Manager for the day, and at his discretion. Life jackets must always be worn when using the boats.
Enjoy your fishing!
